With hurricane season upon us, it's crucial for pet owners to be prepared for potential emergencies. When faced with the need to evacuate, ensuring the safety and well-being of your pets should be a top priority.

With hurricane season upon us, horse owners should take proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their animals. Here are some tips from the Louisiana State Animal Response Team (LSART - lsart.org), the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (ldaf.state.la.us), and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine (lsu.edu/vetmed) for effectively preparing horse owners in areas prone to hurricane damage.

Jackson the Cairn terrier received another chance at life after years of offering comfort to people in end-of-life care with his owner, Heather Meadows. Thanks to the Petco Love/Blue Buffalo grant at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Jackson received the treatment he needed.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine will hold a public dedication of its stunning new sculpture titled, "In Our Hands" by Vito Di Bari on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. near the entrance of the Stephenson Pet Clinic on Skip Bertman Drive.

On July 19, Dr. Blazevich, assisted by dentistry nurses Meg Quinn and Michelle Badeaux and fourth-year veterinary students Phillip St. Martin and Sudarshini Coimbatore, traveled to Audubon to perform the procedure in the Zoo's veterinary hospital.

A juvenile bald eagle treated by the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine's wildlife hospital was released on August 9 in Baton Rouge. This is the seventh bald eagle released by LSU in 2024.

It is with great excitement that the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine welcomes the incoming Class of 2028. This year's class was one of the most competitive application pools we have seen in recent years. With more than 2,000 applicants, 176 students were admitted into the Class of 2028.

Out of the 2,471 applications in the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP), 1,061 applicants successfully matched to an internship, and 402 applicants matched to a residency, resulting in an overall match rate of 48.63 percent. Of the 31 applicants from LSU Vet Med who participated in the match, 21 successfully matched with internships or residencies, showcasing the exceptional talents and abilities of LSU Vet Med students and alumni.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine has installed a stunning new sculpture titled, "In Our Hands" by DiBari & Associates. The sculpture is prominently positioned in front of the Stephenson Pet Clinic on Skip Bertman Drive, between the Mississippi River and Tiger Stadium, in Baton Rouge. Funded by the Percent for Art Program under Louisiana's Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, this artwork symbolizes the school's commitment to the wellbeing of animals and people alike.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana released a bald eagle on July 16 at 11 a.m. at an Entergy facility in LaPlace, La. This is the sixth eagle we have released in 2024.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine is pleased to announce that Colin Mitchell, BVMS, MS, DACVS, will assume the role of head of the department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences effective July 29, 2024.

On July 10, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine formally revealed its spectacular new Food Animal Service area in the large animal hospital attached to the LSU Vet Med building during a ceremony celebrating this state-of-the-art facility.
