Emeritus faculty is a honorary title granted to someone who retires from a position of distinction at an academic institution. Emeritus faculty can continue using the previous title, as in "professor emeritus." Emeritus faculty status is given in recognition of sustained academic contributions to the university.

1981 – Dr. Martin Hugh-Jones implemented an internationally-funded surveillance program concerning zoonotic diseases in the Caribbean Epidemiology Research Center areas (CAREC), part of the World Health Organization.

1993 – Dr. Martin Hugh-Jones was part of an American and Russian team of scientists that solved the mystery of a deadly outbreak of anthrax in 1979 in Sverdlovsk, Siberia.
