LSU Graduate Student Selected as a 2024 Science Policy Fellow

LSU Chemistry doctoral candidate Vanessa Hulse has been selected as a 2024 Science Policy Fellow by the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The fellowship program will allow Vanessa to apply her research skills to policy-related issues and significantly impact the health and sustainability of Gulf Coast communities and ecosystems.

Working in the laboratory of Prof. Noémie Elgrishi, Vanessa's research focuses on removing nitrogen-containing compounds from water using electrochemical methods. The project aims to mitigate harmful algae blooms that threaten marine life and human health in the Gulf of Mexico.

LSU Chemistry welcomes Dr. Pu Duan, who will join the LSU faculty as an assistant professor of analytical chemistry starting this Fall 2024. Dr. Duan brings a wealth of knowledge in Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (SSNMR), focusing on its application to complex biological and material systems.

Celebrating 1 Million Downloads!

Prof. Noémie Elgrishi's article, "A Practical Beginner’s Guide to Cyclic Voltammetry," co-authored with Prof. Jillian Dempsey from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and published in the ACS Journal of Chemical Education, has surpassed 1,023,000 downloads! The highly viewed and cited publication explains the difference between IUPAC and U.S. conventions for cyclic voltammetry and provides an introduction and training modules to assist readers in data acquisition and interpretation. This achievement highlights the article's significant impact on the field, emphasizing its value as an essential resource for researchers and students.
