Conan Mills has been uncovering the history beneath LSU’s original campus in Pineville. Join us to learn how archaeological work is helping to preserve this important piece of Louisiana’s story. This event is free and open to the public—perfect for history lovers, students, and curious minds alike.
We’re excited to announce the third edition of Archaeology Day at the LSU Campus Mounds! After two successful events, we invite you to join us once again for a hands-on experience in archaeological research. Participants will help sift through soil from the LSU Campus Mounds in search of artifacts that shed light on the rich history of this remarkable site. It’s a unique opportunity to learn, discover, and contribute to ongoing research right here on campus. All ages are welcome — come be a part of the adventure!

Following the success of our inaugural event on October 30th, we invite you to participate in the second session where you can get hands-on experience with archaeological practice. We will be sifting through soil recovered from the LSU Campus Mounds, searching for artifacts that tell the story of this fascinating site. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to archaeological research and learn about the history of our campus. All ages are welcome!

On October 30, from 4 PM to 6 PM, the LSU Museum of Natural Science in partnership with the Louisiana Division of
Archaeology and the LSU Department of Anthropology and Archaeology will host a hands-on
workshop where you can learn essential archaeological methods. A team of LSU Grad
Students in Anthropology, professional archaeologists from the Louisiana Office of
Cultural Development, and the LSUMNS Anthropology Division will guide you through
soil sifting techniques while providing valuable insights into the world of archaeological
research and scientific methodology, while discussing the long history of Louisiana.
Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply curious about the past, this workshop is a unique opportunity to delve into the fascinating field of archaeology. Don't miss out!
