"The Right to Exclude"
In the absence of a previous transaction or preexisting relationship, I believe that parties are free to exclude others whenever this exclusion does not violate their Samaritan rights. I explain and motivate this view in light of Robert Nozick’s and Peter Singer’s work on exclusion. After analyzing the ethics of exclusion for interpersonal morality, I consider its application to international organizations, commenting in particular on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO’s) right to exclude Ukraine.
