Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews, approves and oversees research, teaching and diagnostics involving the use of recombinant or synthetic nucleic acids and other biohazards. The IBC is charged with protecting LSU faculty, students, staff, and visitors and has the authority to stop any activity that the committee believes to be unsafe. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) mandates that LSU establish and maintain an Institutional Biosafety Committee for review and approval of all research involving recombinant DNA and biohazards. The committee follows Federal guidelines with respect to the review and approval of protocols. Activities that require approve approval include procurement, use, storage, transportation, and disposal of biohazardous material. What You Need to KnowIBC meetings are open to the public and are held virtually once a month. Meeting dates and times are subject to change based on the availability of the committee members. The IBC reviews the Biological Safety Registration Document submitted virtually during their monthly meetings. Incomplete or documents missing critical information are subject to being put "On Hold" until such a time as the relevant information is obtained. Associated work is prohibited until the Biological Safety Document is approved by the committee. The deadline for submission for review at a meeting is one week prior to the meeting by 4:00 p.m. Registration documents submitted after 4:00 p.m. will be reviewed at the meeting the following month. Meeting minutes from meetings that took place before June 1, 2025 may be provided upon written request. Meeting minutes from meetings after June 1, 2025 will be posted for the public pending review by the committee. The website is under development. Please check back for updates. 2024 IBC Meeting Dates
