Rockhounding in Louisiana
Featuring Catherine Rouchon of Compass Rose
Tuesday, September 24, 6:30-8pm

sample of jewelry piecesDigging deep down in Louisiana’s earth, rockhounders (rock hunters) have found amazing treasures. Catherine Rouchon is one of these hounders who’s also a Graduate Gemologist, silversmithing, and lapidary artist. She owns Compass Rose Jewelry Designs, where she creates one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, inspired by Louisiana’s unique landscape and diverse geology. At this event, Catherine will provide us with a brief geological history of Louisiana, focusing on rocks, minerals, and gemstones that can be found in our unique state.

In 2014, Catherine began rockhounding throughout Louisiana, most inspired by Toledo Bend and her home in East Feliciana. Her favorite stones to work with are the ones she mines herself. Using her lapidary skills, she cuts, grinds and polishes cabochons. Her silver work designs are inspired by the landscape and the wildlife she encounters in her travels as well the environment thriving out of her back door.

Compass Rose Jewelry will be available for purchase at the event. Learn more about Compass Rose.
