Research

My research concerns the peoples and places of the Atlantic world, especially the causes and continuing consequences of landscape transformations during the colonial period, historical political ecology, and human mobility. I have three decades of experience doing field and archival research in  Louisiana, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. and particularly encourage applications from graduate students who plan dissertation and thesis projects that engage the intersections of nature, culture, and the past as rooted in particular places but involved in global networks of relationships. See my current CV for further details.
