As the LSU campus is in full swing for the spring semester, students are working hard to finish the academic year strong. New classes, new schedules, and new goals can be exciting but overwhelming. That’s where “TIGER” tips from the Center for Academic Success (CAS) come in. These tips will guide you through your spring semester with ease.

T – Time Management Matters

Coming back to campus after break, it can be challenging to jump back into a routine. That’s where time management becomes essential. Using the 8-8-8 rule along with CAS tools like the Semester Calendar and Weekly Planner can help students balance school, work, and personal time while staying on track throughout the semester.

I – Interact with Course Materials

When you slow down and start asking yourself, “How does this work?”  ”Why is this important?”  and “What if this were different?” The material begins to make more sense. Engaging with your readings, notes, and practice problems through critical thinking and active learning turns studying into real understanding, not just memorization.

G – Geaux to Class!

Being in class gives you the opportunity to learn directly from your professors and hear explanations in real time. Even on days when motivation is low, showing up consistently means gaining clarity, insight, and a better understanding of the material. Class time also allows for questions, discussion, and connections that cannot be made through slides alone. Taking advantage of these moments with your instructors can make a big difference, even when attendance is not required.

E- Everything you need is in the syllabus.

When the semester starts to feel busy, it is easy to forget that so many answers are already there. Taking time to review the syllabus, check Moodle, and look over course pages helps you stay aware of upcoming assignments, important deadlines, and what is expected of you. Using these tools regularly can prevent confusion and make the semester feel more organized and manageable.

R – Resources Are Everywhere

Throughout the semester, support is all around you, from the Center for Academic Success to office hours, Supplemental Instruction, tutoring, and workshops. Using these resources early and often can help you stay confident, efficient, and prepared as you move through your academic journey.

With the TIGER tips in mind, students can build strong habits, stay engaged, and make the most of the opportunities this spring has to offer. Geaux Tigers!
