Pennington Biomedical and Louisiana Leaders Launch Greaux Healthy Program to Combat Childhood Obesity

June 05, 2025

Childhood obesity has become a leading public health crisis in America, with 1-in-5 children affected. According to the National Survey of Children’s Health, 23.1 percent of Louisiana children are living with obesity.

A new Greaux Healthy initiative, built on more than three decades of groundbreaking research by Pennington Biomedical Research Center's world-renowned scientists, is designed to help improve Louisiana children's health at every age.

The program, developed in partnership with the state of Louisiana and announced on June 5 during the center's weekly Red Stick Farmers Market, provides tools, resources and programing for children, parents, healthcare providers and educators throughout the state.

“Through this great initiative, Pennington Biomedical, our administration, and the Louisiana Department of Health are focused on working together to secure a healthier future for the next generation,” Governor Jeff Landry said.
